Welcome to the Book Club of A Song Of Ice And Fire!

A few years ago, I was speaking with a couple friends who loved the HBO show Game of Thrones, and were thinking of reading the Ice and Fire series. As someone who had read the series once, I was very excited to have more people to discuss the series with; however, I felt obligated to disclose the fact that reading the series was a major undertaking that can be overwhelming. I was anxious to re-read the series to see if my familiarity with where the story was heading would enhance my reading experience. 

So I helped organize a small book club made up of two people, who had read the series once, and three others, who were first time readers. We decided to break up the first book into multiple sections, and get together every couple of weeks to discuss what we had read. As I began to re-read, I thought it would be helpful to take some notes as I read so we would have talking points during the meetings. 

I have decided to blog chapter by chapter for anyone who is interested in reading this excellent series with the concern of losing track of characters or story lines. I break each chapter into three sections: 

Characters:

     This will contain list of all characters who appear in the chapter of discussion. 

Important Characters:

    There will be a list of all characters who are mentioned for the first time. Although there are hundreds of characters in the series, the reader should keep an eye on this section. Most of the characters named eventually become important to varying degrees in the series. 

Notes:

   This will contain a list of events that happen in the chapter, identifications of key locations, histories pertaining to characters or of legends, etc, as well as anything else that caught my eye during my re-reading. 

Spoiler side-note: Since there were first time readers in the group, I have tried to stay spoiler free; however, I may have highlighted or noted an event that has significance for those who have previously read the series.
